I’m sure we could all name a song by our favorite artist that we simply can’t stand. The singer may actually feel the same way.
Here are 18 times singers admitted which songs they hate:
1.
In 2017, Charli XCX told Q Magazine, “I made some rash decisions with Sucker, like the song ‘Break the Rules.’ That was so bad. I hate it. I wrote it at a writing camp for other artists with Benny Blanco and Stargate, and I was like, ‘Whoever sings this song is an idiot.'”
4.
Promoting Dig Out Your Soul in 2008, Oasis singer Liam Gallagher reportedly said, “At least there’s no ‘Wonderwall’ on there. I can’t fucking stand that fucking song! Every time I have to sing it, I want to gag.”
6.
In 2014, Ariana Grande told Rolling Stone, “[‘Put Your Hearts Up’] was geared toward kids and felt so inauthentic and fake. That was the worst moment of my life.”
7.
In 2011, Lady Gaga told Pop Justice, “I hate ‘Telephone.’ Is that terrible to say? It’s the song I have the most difficult time listening to.”
8.
In 2019, Kelly Clarkson told BuzzFeed Celeb that she’d remove “A Moment Like This” from her discography. She said, “It’s because the song was not written for me. It was written for the [American Idol] winner.”
9.
Warrant singer Jani Lane reportedly told VH1, “Everything about me is ‘Cherry Pie.’ I’m the ‘Cherry Pie’ guy. I could shoot myself in the fucking head for writing that song.”
10.
In 2015, Madonna told Us Weekly, “My least favorite [Madonna song] is ‘Material Girl.’ I never, ever want to hear it again!”
12.
In 2020, Jesy Nelson told BuzzFeed Celeb that “Black Magic” was the Little Mix song she was most tired of performing. She added, “I never really liked it, if I’m honest.”
13.
According to Rolling Stone, in 1988, Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant said, “I’d break out in hives if I had to sing [‘Stairway to Heaven’] every show.”
14.
In 2020, Nicki Minaj told Pollstar Live, “I wish I never recorded ‘Anaconda.’ I like the video, but ugh. My first ever solo song on Billboard was ‘Your Love.’ To this day, I like the video, but I hate the song. I could go on and on. I hate ‘Starships.'”
15.
In 2010, Dio singer Ronnie James Dio told VH1, “I absolutely hated [‘Rainbow in the Dark’]. And I hated that song in context with what else I was trying to accomplish with the album. After all, I had just come from [Black] Sabbath. So, I was quite deeply into the heavier side of things, and this is what I always wanted to do anyway. I liked the riff, but I thought that the song just became a little bit poppy. That was my problem with it. Compared with the rest of the album, the other songs were a lot heavier to me. So I actually got the point where I said, ‘I’m gonna destroy this tape.'”
16.
Appearing on A Moody Conversation in 2023, Drake said, “I hate hearing [‘Weston Road Flows’]. I heard it the other night. I think that and some times when I’ve said girls’ names in songs, maybe those are the two things that I look back on, and I’m like, ‘Maybe I coulda done without, like, shitting on people for age or disrupting somebody’s life.'”
17.
Sometimes, singers loathe more than just a few songs. In 2021, The Kid Laroi told NME, “I remember when I first finished F*CK LOVE, I loved it and thought it was the greatest thing I would ever make in my entire life. I felt like, oh God, how am I ever gonna make something better than this? ‘Cause I was just so in love with it, and I spent so much time on it. Now, I go back, and I’m just like, oh God, I hate this shit, I wanna make better stuff.”
18.
And finally, in 2006, Mandy Moore told Contact Music that her debut and sophomore albums “were awful.” She said, “If I had the money, I would give a refund to everyone who bought my first two albums.”
