The college baseball season is in full swing and players across the country are stepping up to make a difference on the diamond. This week, Indiana and Maryland were recognized for their standout performances with Baseball Weekly Awards.
Indiana’s McCade Brown was named the National Pitcher of the Week after throwing a no-hitter against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Brown, a junior right-hander, struck out 15 batters in the game, allowing just one walk in the process. It was the first no-hitter for Indiana since 2013 and Brown’s dominant performance earned him the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award as well.
Maryland’s Maxwell Costes earned National Player of the Week honors after leading the Terrapins to a series win over Ohio State. Costes, a junior first baseman, went 6-for-12 at the plate with four home runs and nine RBI over the weekend. He also drew five walks and scored six runs, finishing the series with a slugging percentage of 2.167. Costes was also named the Big Ten Player of the Week for his performance.
Both Indiana and Maryland are off to strong starts this season, with the Hoosiers boasting a 15-6 record and the Terrapins sitting at 12-6. Brown and Costes have been key contributors to their teams’ success, and their recent accolades are well-deserved.
