Sabrina Carpenter poked fun at her potential involvement in some recent headlines out of New York City.
In case you missed it, NYC Mayor Eric Adams was indicted in a federal corruption investigation last week.
On Friday, Adams denied any wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty to federal charges of bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy, and two counts of soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals.
And in an unexpected turn of events, the New York Post claimed that Sabrina may have played a minor role in the indictment thanks to the 2023 music video for her hit song, “Feather,” which has over 90 million views on YouTube.
For context, the “Feather” visual was filmed in and around a church in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Because of its racy and violent content, the video was swiftly denounced by a Catholic bishop who said they were “appalled at what was filmed.”
So, if you’re wondering how this links back to Eric Adams, the New York Post alleged that the controversy with Sabrina’s music video may have helped kickstart the indictment by alerting federal investigators to the Brooklyn church and its connections to Adams.
With all this going on, Sabrina has recently embarked on her Short n’ Sweet Tour. And while playing NYC’s Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, the singer took a moment to cheekily acknowledge the theories about Adams’ recent indictment.
It’s worth noting that diocese officials did not address or confirm any connection between the subpoena and the “Feather” controversy, telling the Post via a statement: “It would be inappropriate to comment further on that review, which is still ongoing.”
