Pamela Anderson is an icon — a pop cultural force whose fame and presence has stretched across the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st centuries.
Most recently, Pamela has been receiving accolades for her performance in Gia Coppola’s upcoming film The Last Showgirl.
As the film continues to screen on the fest circuit, Pamela recently accepted the Golden Eye award at the Zurich Film Festival — and in an interview with Variety, she got real about what she’s endured in her life leading up to this moment.
“I never thought I would be on stage, receiving an award like that,” she reminisced. “I just want to keep working. I am excited to do more.”
“I look at it now and it feels like I went from Baywatch to Broadway. I don’t know what happened in between, it’s all a big blur.”
“I am just happy to be here, in this moment, because I think I have had depression for a couple of decades.”
Pamela also reflected on her career thus far, which has recently included her memoir Love, Pamela and last year’s documentary Pamela, a Love Story, which was directed by Ryan White.
“Ryan made that doc and that’s how Gia saw me,” she said. “I always knew I was capable of more. It’s great to be a part of pop culture, but it’s a blessing and a curse.”
“People fall in love with you because of a bathing suit. It has taken a long time, but I am here.”
